July 3: "Summer of Stewardship Lakes Basin Cleanup"Help Friends of the Inyo take care of Mammoth's favorite playground, the Lakes Basin! Meet at Horseshoe Lake parking area (please carpool). From 8:30 am – 12:30 pm. Trash cleanup, light trail maintenance. Friends of the Inyo supplies the trash bags, gloves, grabbers and tools, plus water, snacks and lunch. July 3: “4TH of July Tri at Whitmore Pool”The 5th Annual Triathlon hosted by the Mammoth Lakes Swim Team will take place on Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Whitmore Pool. There will be a variety of races for adults and kids as young as 5 years old. After the Tri at 12:00 noon, the pool will be open to the public for FREE. July 4: “Fire Safety Fun Festival” Come and learn how to be fire safe and have fun doing so with Smokey Bear. July 4: “Grumpy's 4TH of July Bash & Hot Dog Eating Contest”The 4th of July Bash starts before the parade at 10:00 am with a DJ playing music in the parking lot - Free. There will also be a food tent selling BBQ Pork sandwiches, Hot dogs and beverages. Proceeds benefit the MMHS Football team program. When the Parade ends, the competition begins "Grumpy's 3rd Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest". Sign up now to be a contestant by contacting Red or Scott. The contest costs $25.00 per entry and includes a competitor T-shirt. There will only be 30 people allowed to compete so get in early before it's full. 1st - 3rd place are cash prizes along with honorary trophies. July 4: "Mammoth Lakes Police Department Open House" The Mammoth Lakes Police Department invites everyone to its Open House on July 4 at the conclusion of the Independence Day parade. Starting at about 12:00 p.m. and ending at 2:00 p.m., free soft drinks and hot dogs, informational booths and tours of the police facility. This is a great chance to interact with officers, learn about support services like CERT, and get behind the wheel of a fully equipped four-wheel drive Ford Expedition patrol car. Darren the DARE lion will be on hand for photos, as will be the color guard and horse units.

July 4: “Fireworks at Crowley Lake”This year's Fireworks Show promises to be a bright and beautiful display of color in the spectacular Eastern Sierra setting. The show commences at dusk, approximately 9:15 p.m., weather permitting. Music coordinated with the show will be broadcast over KMMT. Hot Chicks of Mammoth Lakes will be selling hot BBQ dinners plus Mammoth Brew/beverages. Crowley Lake Fish Camp will also be providing free live music by “The Akoustik2 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Remember – no personal fireworks are permitted within Mono County. We want everyone to have fun, be safe and enjoy the 4th. $25.00 per car. $5.00 walk-in. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and friends and celebrate Independence Day at Crowley Lake. Crowley Lake Fish Camp will have open camping at the South Landing from Thursday, July1-Monday, July 5, 2010. The fee is $100 per car for 4 nights of camping and the firework show.
